Portrait of Martin Gren

A portrait of Swedish inventor and entrepreneur, Martin Gren, was commissioned by Canon in early 2022, intended for the premises of Axis Communications in Lund, Sweden.

I spent the following months creating a portrait using 5944 squares of patinated bronze. These bronze squares give a pixel effect to the portrait and the choice of aspect ratio as well as pixel density reference Martin’s groundbreaking contributions to digital camera technology. The design was based on the following key considerations: innovation, pixels, aspect ratio, materials, location and abstraction.
